A panel of professional communicators gathered in the alkek teaching theater on Monday for “getting creative with your digital career” as part of Texas State’s Mass Communication Week. The panel offered first hand advice about working in digital media as well as how to kick start one’s digital career.
The panel included: Trei Brundett of Vox Media, Kolten Parker of the San Antonio Express-News, Annie Werner of Tumblr, and Meg Turney of Rooster Teeth.
The panel was led in discussion by Texas State professor, and digital media expert Cindy Royal. The discussion was followed by questions from Texas State students.
The panel was live streamed throughout its duration allowing people from all over the globe to be a part of the discussion.
One of the most notable pieces of advice the panel members all agreed upon in establishing a digital career was the importance of creating. Whether it be a Youtube channel, a Tumblr, or a project website the panelists heavily stressed the importance of having something to show potential employers aside from a resume.
