I believe a key role in the success of a website is the attractiveness. I don’t want to go to a website that has a terrible color scheme, uses Times Roman, or is full of clutter. I am very huge on the term ‘less is more’ and love the simplicity of things. But I also love the interactivity that some websites use to engage their users. I think it’s very important to also keep the appearance of a website relatable to the field or industry. You don’t want hot pink bold letters on a website built for an oil company.
Las Vegas
I have a love for the city and atmosphere of Las Vegas and have frequently visited a website that gives you an incredible amount of information to plan your perfect trip to Vegas! From vacation packages to shows and events, this website has it all. The appearance of this site most certainly fits the central theme of Las Vegas and what it has to offer. It’s great that they separated things into a menu of categories for an easy search on what exactly you are looking for. I also love the alignment of their pages and how they use images, because no one really likes to just look at plain text.
EDC
Another one of my favorites, also located in Vegas, is the website for a music festival called Electric Daisy Carnival. This is by far one of my favorite music festival websites, as far as design goes. On the main page they use a video in the header which really draws your attention. Their navigation is also very easy to look through so you can immediately find what you are looking for. Another thing I absolutely love is the consistent look they use on each page, this is something I even do for my own personal website.
VICE
For the last website, which is one of my favorite places to get news information from is Vice. The fonts and
simplicity on this site are some of my favorites. I can’t stand going to other news websites because they have ads everywhere and use ugly fonts, ew. I also love the use of imagery that Vice uses throughout their website, because like I said earlier, no one likes a mumble jumble of text. The way they set up the news on their homepage is very appealing to the eye. The columns they use really work by using an image, the title of the story, and then a little preview of what you’re about to read.
