Hello my name is Maria and this is my first semester in graduate school. I did my undergrad up the road at UTSA in general communication. I didn’t feel as challenged in my undergrad as I would have liked which led me here, doing something new but still being in the field I love.
Fortunately I didn’t feel too lost watching this video, that intro to technical communication elective I took actually came in handy. The one thing that really caught me by surprise was the fact that e-mail was made because someone thought it would be a “neat idea”. Not because the government or a group of people or even just one person thought it was necessary but just because it was an interesting idea to one specific person.
I think this can be related to a lot of innovations on the internet especially when it comes to social media. Facebook, twitter, and Instagram, for example, were not made out of necessity but rather because it was an idea that someone thought might be “neat”. And their hunch happened to be correct. Just like e-mail, which was created out of interest not necessity, social media has now impacted the way people communicate with one an other and how people conduct their businesses.
