It takes a lot for me to want to bookmark a website and return to it over and over. Typically I like websites that are “clean” with an obvious purpose and direct communication. There are some websites I am utterly repulsed by and those are typically pages with clutter and bright, obnoxious colors. Being passionate about art, I’ve selected three websites I believe to be well designed that fall into the mentioned category.

Etsy

A second website I believed is well designed is none other than Etsy! For those who are unaware, Etsy is a P2P e-commence website that focuses on selling handmade, vintage or factory-manufactured items. The item categories, such as jewelry or clothing, can easily be found at the top of the page. Having the categories placed so that it is one of the first things the viewer sees saves times and eliminates the frustration. The background is a light cream green color that is comfortable for the eye while browsing. My personalized content, such as my shopping cart, profile, and favorites, are located on the upper right side of the screen, which is a huge convenience. Furthermore, my personalize newsfeed is easy to explore. To sum it all up, this well designed website makes shopping for desired images very easy.

But Does it Float?

This website is somewhat similar to Tumblr in that it contains endless scrolling. The purpose of this website is to take a few moments from your day and let your mind melt while viewing the posted images. But Does It Float has a white background and you have your choice on how you wish to view the images. I personally prefer them in a rows and column view so I can get an idea at what I wish to open. I enjoy when I have the option to customize a page to fit my preferences for it adds a personal touch. Additionally, there is very little text allowing the focus to be on the pictures themselves. Furthermore, the category and search box are right there on the screen and you don’t need to wonder aimlessly looking for it. All in all, maneuvering around this page is simple and it was created to serve a simple purpose and has remained humble and dedicated to images.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston

A final website I find myself visiting quite often is The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. My main purpose of visiting this page is to learn about the latest art exhibits which are posted on the top banner of the main page in a slideshow manner. I love this particular design because it saves me time when I visit the page to learn about what is new. The text is on a white background making it easy to read. It is a clear page with no clutter, allowing the eye to move throughout the page easily. Browsing the page is simple and essential information regarding the museum, such as parking and hours, are located at the top of the page. Additionally, the page is constantly being updated making the content fresh. Another reason I believe this website to be designed well is due to the weekly schedule. This schedule is broken down into days and provides the viewer with events taking place during a given day. This makes it easy to keep up with occasions going on. In conclusion, this page is simple to browse and content is simply accessed.
